Where the “Internet Cafe” term came from?

May 2nd, 2009

The term “Online Cafe” was invented in earlier 1991 when San Francisco resident named Wayne Gregori created his SFnet Coffee House Network. Later, the service became very popular.
Waine set up twenty computers operated with coins in his Coffee House, mainly in the Bay Area of San Francisco. He offered wide range of services, including e-mail and access to BBS (Bulletin Board Systems).

In later 1994, “Online Cafe” term has evolutioned into well-known “Internet Cafe” with the help of I. Pope, who wrote corresponding proposal for the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London. This review and proposal with concept of easy access to the internet from Cafe tables inspired multiple businessmen to open their own Internet Cafes around the world.

The first Internet Cafe in Canada was opened in Toronto, Ontario in later 1994. At the same time, someone has established “CompuCafe” in Helsinki, Finland providing customer with internet access.
London-based Cyberia CyberCafe was opened in September, whose commercial success influenced the U.S. and High Tech Cafe was opened as a result in August.

Although Internet Cafe term has a long history, a different variation, Gaming Club, or LAN Gaming Center, has become popular relatively recently, in 1997. When StarCraft game was released, a network of such gaming clubs was established in South Korea under the name of “PC Bang”. These placed attracted many customers, eventually providing owners with a high revenue.

May 2nd, 2009

When it comes to Internet Cafe Management, generally, there are two types of Cybercafe Management Software.
The first type consists of 3 parts: server, administrator and the client application. It’s not that common as the other type, which is easier to setup and use: server and client. In the second case server application provides two-in-one functionality - the server acts as administrator program, too.
At the initial stage of MightyAdmin planning we decided to use the second option, since the application can be lightweight and efficient in that case. The goal was to provide maximum simplicity and power.

Essentially, Internet Cafe administrator doesn’t need to setup anything in order to launch his Cyber Club. MightyAdmin client finds server by itself and the database configuration is done automatically without user intervention.

The only thing needed is to install your games and software among client computers. For example, if you plan to provide Counter-Strike for Gaming Club and Firefox for Internet Cafe users, you need to install these programs to client computers, where your users will work and entertain.

Unlike other Cybercafe Management Software MightyAdmin provides highly innovative way to manage programs and games. You don’t need to setup them for each computer manually, you can import these applications once for the whole cyberclub. This is an easy and quick process that provides you with maximum flexibility.

As for the visual interface, we decided to create the most advanced one, yet fast and flexible. MightyAdmin supports practically unlimited number of advanced skins, some of them will be released with the first version, since the beginning.

At the time when you setup your own internet café or cybercafé, you need to consider security as well. Our software provides the most clean way to protect your venue from unscrupulous users. Client has been built as a shell, Windows Explorer replacement will advanced capabilities. Users can access MightyAdmin desktop with program shortcuts, they can adjust volume on the computer, send messages to administrator and order items such as Cola and Chips. Additionally, they will be able to see how much time do they have or how much money did they spend, depending on the mode station currently in. You can start client station in Prepaid, Postpaid or Free Mode.

The users can’t change computer settings or launch programs other than the ones you’ve setup for them. However, you can add, change or remove these program/game shortcuts at anytime, using your administrator program.

When the time has finished, station will lock automatically and station user won’t be able to use any programs, press system keys or change settings. Client application has completely independent time control system. If for any reason the server will stop working, stations will be locked automatically at the time they were set to, despite unavailabity of the server. This provides your internet café or cybercafé with maximum security and easiness of use, at the same time you, as an administrator of your cafe, have completely peaceful mind.
